Sam Sparro made a great debut appearance in Radio 1’s Live Lounge during the Jo Whiley show on Friday the 11th of April. He first played a funky version of Black and Gold live, followed by the current UK number one, American Boy, by Estelle featuring Kanye West.

Along with the two live tracks there’s a great interview with Sam, in which Jo Whiley and Sam discuss everything from Sam’s dad, Chaka Khan, living in USA, Australia and the meaning behind the lyrics of Black and Gold. Being hailed as one of the hottest new talents on the international music scene, Sparro is headed for a commercial explosion after eclipsing megastar Madonna on the UK Billboard chart this week.

His debut single, Black and Gold, was tipped by UK music critics to be “the biggest song of 2008″, and clearly they were on the right track, with the electro-pop tune becoming the hottest singles climber when it leap-frogged Madonna to No. 4 on the chart off the back of download sales alone. Black and Gold has made it onto the B list of the Radio 1 playlist for this week!!

So expect to be hearing more of the track on BBC Radio 1 in the following shows; Jo Whiley, Edith Bowman, Scott Mills and Zane Lowe. Lets hope one of the Radio 1 DJ’s picks it up as one of their record’s for the week!

The 2008 Camden Crawl now over the weekend of Friday 18th and Saturday 19th April has made an initial announcement of some of the 130 or so acts entertaining ‘Crawlers’ in 25 venues in Camden, London over the two days, including the news that Sam Sparro will be featuring on both days of the event!
